The new JMC, co-signed by Undersecretary of Infrastructure and Transport Mr. Giannis Kefalogiannis and includes a series of amendments to the measures for vehicles, will come in force from July 12, 2020.
Specifically, for private vehicles :
– For passenger cars for private use up to seven (7) seats, it is allowed to transport three (3) passengers more than the driver, against two (2) that was valid.
– For passenger vehicles for private use eight (8) or nine (9) seats, it is allowed to transport five (5) passengers more than the driver, compared to four (4) that was valid.
Similar provisions apply to double-cab, mixed-use and van-type vehicles.
For commercial vehicles :
– For passenger vehicles of public use (E.D.X. TAXI, Special Lease) and passenger cars for private use vehicles with a driver up to seven (7) seats, the transport of three (3) passengers is allowed, now of the driver, against two (2) in force.
– For passenger vehicles of eight (8) or nine (9) seats, for public use (E.D.X. Special Lease) and passenger cars for private use vehicles with its driver are allowed to transport five (5) passengers now of the driver, against four (4) in force.
In the above cases, it is exceptionally permitted to exceed the passenger limit, provided that only parents with their minor children are in the vehicle, in addition to the driver. If the children are adults, this assistance is determined by presenting a police ID or other official document (passport or driver’s license). This regulation also applies to privately owned vehicles.
What applies to masks and fines – Air conditioning instructions
The use of a protective mask by passengers and the driver is mandatory in the above cases involving commercial vehicles .
For each violation of the relevant provisions, a fine of one hundred and fifty (150) euros is imposed on both the driver of the vehicle and the passengers .
Finally, air conditioning is recommended to be used with settings so that air is not recycled in combination with open windows. In case the air conditioning is used, the air should have a vertical flow and not a horizontal one, in order not to be directed at the faces of the passengers. In any case, natural ventilation with open windows is preferred.
