Social contribution and Ianos
One of the most important events of 2020 for Kefalonia was Cyclone Janos. Despite the shock, sadness, despair that many of us felt in the face of the disasters, a spontaneous citizens’ initiative was launched on social media, which brought courage, hope and optimism to both the victims and the volunteers themselves.
Hundreds of financial donations were collected for the purchase of basic necessities and for the financial support of volunteer groups and associations in Kefalonia and Ithaca. Two collection points for basic necessities were set up in Argostoli, where dozens of citizens brought food, water and clothing supplies. Even tourists helped clean the beach of Assos, the village and the houses in Agia Efimia.
Nevertheless, 60 families still need help and will be supported at least until April, by the social grocery in Agia Efimia.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
- AGIA EFIMIA: The social grocery is housed in the Cultural Center in Agia Efimia. It is open Monday and Thursday from 10:00 until 15:00 and accepts donations of food and detergents.
- ARGOSTOLI: On Thursday, January 14 and Monday, January 18 from 12:00 – 13:30 we will collect products at the address Georgiou Gennimata corner with the ring road and we will take care of their transportation.

- FINANCIAL SUPPORT: Finally, especially for those who live outside Kefalonia, there is the possibility for financial assistance through the initiative GO FUNDME SUPPORT IN KEFALONIA With the money raised the items on the list will be purchased from local supermarkets.
Janus’s experience has shown us that the best antidote to disasters is social contribution and solidarity, as they bring us closer to the human level and act invigorating and healing for both the afflicted and those who help. Our freedom and strength are not defined by what happens to us, but by how we stand against them.
